Tea drinking subtleties

Good late afternoon/night/morning to fellow mylotters. It's tea time here. Today I am going to mention about a subtle custom that I observed amongst the elders in my family. I am sure this custom is prevalent in many other places in my country too. At childhood I was not permitted to have tea, but only started drinking it after reaching a certain age. When I looked at the cups of my parents , I wondered why do they always leave some amount of tea in the cup at the end . I remember insisting them to drink it fully but they smiled at me saying it is the style of drinking tea. It contradicted with the lesson that my parents taught to finish off everything on the plate before getting up and not to keep any left-overs. Been taught such, I too keep some tea now in my cup as I finish drinking it. Do you people have some customs to share for drinking beverages? Yes I do it. Actually we in India make our chai in a very unique way . And I am talking about the traditional tea with milk...doodh wali chai. So sugar (mine without sugar), milk, water, tea and ginger/ cardamom ( optional) all boiled and then filtered. No matter how fine is your filter, some tea dust settles at the bottom of the cup. It doesn't taste good to drink that.

It is not any special kind of tea, just a style or custom of tea drinking

Hmm so what’s the reason why they leave some in the cup? I always down my tea up to the last drop. I did learn from a friend that in making tea, one must put cold or normal temperature water first and immerse the tea on it before filling the whole cup with warm water. This prevents the leaves from getting too burnt.

Tea time? That is charming. Here coffee seems to be a big drink of choice. I can't think of any interesting tradition to go with it though
