DIY Project on my Deck

Deck Floor

It is time to have the deck flooring replaced. It has a few places where the wood is starting to sink. This is a drawback when you choose wood. But it is the more economical way to go. All I need is to step through the floor and break my leg. So the time has come to spend some money. Nothing is cheap these days if you want it done right. My husband will be doing all the work. The materials are pricey but it has to be done. The photo was taken a few years ago when it was first done. I hope the new one looks like this soon. Then it can be stained. Do you have a project that need to get done around your home?

@CarolDM it’s so relaxing staying in there as your rocking chair lulls you.

@Janet357 Yes indeed and no bugs. The screen keeps everything out.

Thank you so much, I live on my deck and especially in the screen room. The best money we ever spent.

We would like to replace our wooden fence, I will opt for a metal fence this time, it's lighter and it lasts longer.

@CarolDM The wood is nice, but you have to spend a lot of time every year, cleaning, repainting, fixing.

Thanks Andria. We closed part of it off a few years ago and made a screen room. I rarely use the deck now except for my plants and bird feeders. Only a few boards need replacing but he is going to do it all.

Carol, you are very lucky your husband can do the labour. If you had to pay for the work as well as the material it would be a whole other story. I am sure it will look great, and I would like to see it after you stain it!

Yes and that is he willing to do it. usually we get someone to do it but we know the expense that involves. The deck we have now was done by professionals. I will share pics. It will take awhile. He will definitely take his time, doing everything to the inth degree, somewhat of a perfectionist. But that is ok too.

Wow that sure is beautiful. It seems like it should have held up better if it's only a few years old. Was the wood pressure treated? Maybe the beans underneath were to far apart or the ground shifted.

Thank you! It is actually 11 years old now. And the ground could have shifted for sure.

It's good he can do it himself and save the cost of labor. I'm sure it will look just as good when it's finished this time.

Well good luck with the project, I hope it goes well! That's true that things like that are pricey. We don't have anything that needs done...since we live in an apartment complex we can't really do any projects like that ourselves.

I like wooden flooring for decks. I bet it will great when you get it all done. I rent so I don't do any projects like that and I sure miss that.

We had those very iron railings on our deck back when I lived up here in Denver before. But we went with Trex since we had the money at the time.

@CarolDM Yes everything is expensive and you are lucky that your husband can do the job. You will save money that way. Yes, I have something I want to put on our porch in the winter for my cat so she can go out and not get wet from the rain but have not gone to check out places yet. I have something that has to be done and then start something else too.
