This countdown of my favorite R.E.M. songs is a week old now! That means there's about two more weeks of music to go. For today, here's a frequently-used favorite from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band. #14: Orange Crush I used this in my "favorite soldier songs" countdown. Scott used it in his color countdown. John knew this one was coming. What's not to like about this song?! Well, why it was written might not be too pleasant: "orange crush" isn't the soft drink, it's Agent Orange. I have my VA hearing this week, after waiting five years. That's nothing. It took the government over thirty years to acknowledge that Agent Orange had caused medical issues with soldiers exposed to it in Vietnam. Oh, well. That's for another discussion. Enjoy this song. This DVD reminded me why I was an REM fan in the first place. Recorded in Germany in 2003, the concert features plenty of hits (Man on the Moon, One I Love),...

My daddy was in Vietnam for nearly two years. He was also exposed to Agent Orange. He originally got 10% disability when he retired from the Air Force in 1986. We knew back then that it should be more. We have fought them for years. He eventually got 60% and now just last month they gave him 100% . They never acknowledged that Agent Orange caused most of his problems, but we are so grateful that we kept fighting for him and at 78 years old he finally won the battle. It is worth all that they put you through to keep pushing forward. Bless you and good luck.

A great song depicting one very horrible chemical used in a terrible war in our American History. Of course all wars are terrible!
