It's definitely not easy. It's definitely a tricky situation. But he definitely should be more careful with his money for sure. he shouldn't be spending like crazy.

ADHD is no excuse for overspending or not having a job.

I'm sorry that you are going through that. That can't be easy. As for your son, I know alot of people like him. My sister is like that. Blows through her money and then when she wants to borrow money and I say no, I'm the bad person. It's sad that in this world, there are so many people who just want to use other people for their money or their kindness. My only advice is to only help those who would help you in return. That's a hard lesson, I know because I am trying to stick by it myself. Especially this past week. I hope everything works out for you!!

There comes a point in time when our kids grow up and have to take responsibility for themselves and their actions. I almost get the feeling that he might use his ADHD as an excuse to behave badly. It does compromise a person's ability to control their impulses (overspending can be a symptom of that) but there are behavioral therapies that can help with that along with medications. You might need to put your foot down very firmly on the handouts. The most I might do would be to suggest that he look for ways to earn online so he can earn his own spending money... but somehow I have the feeling that he'd be pretty offended by a suggestion like that.
