What exactly is a professional mermaid?

I have just come across somebody on Twitter who says that they are writing a book on "professional mermaids". Does this strike you as just a trifle odd? Did you realise that there are apparently both amateur and professional mermaids, and that - presumably - one can progress from one status to the other? Do you think it's like golf - you can only play in the big mermaid tournaments if you have achieved professional status? And how exactly does a mermaid earn her living so that she can call herself a professional? Do you think that some of them become super rich? And if they do, where exactly do they put their credit cards when they're out shopping? These are clearly deep and far-from-serious questions that deserve shallow and entirely ridiculous answers!

@indexer I used to have one to lick stamps back in the day when I sent letters. She was awfully useful.

Mine was smelling fish and her salty saliva was bleaching stamps, I have a female centaur now, you should see how fast she goes to the post-office to buy the stamps and post my mail !

@indexer Centaurs have no horns ; besides you can use the manure to grow mushrooms. I would not recommend to employ a unicorn for secretariat, their lack of hands is a handicap to type, stamp letters and respond to phone calls.

@topffer That might not be such a good idea. Suppose she carries the letters by impaling them on her twisted horn?

I know nothing about "professional mermaids" until search this link.It is an arduous job that demands a lot of qualities requisite to a professional mermaid
Half-fish, half-businesswoman, Mermaid Melissa has crafted a thriving company around her alter-ego.

I think the human-like mermaids are man-made. They are for fairy tales. The mermaid is a kind of creature lives in the sea and I have seen them in River Safari from Singapore. It is quite amazing. As I could see more huge creatures in water.

@indexer You asked a lot of things but what does the person say that wants to write a book on mermaids?

No - this was just a line in her Twitter intro. She didn't say whether or not she had ever donned a fishtail herself!

The bigger question to me is what happens when a mermaid grows old? Does she then turn into a sea dragon?
