Bluejay at my Deck Feeder

Bluejay in Feeder

I enjoy feeding the backyard birds all year. I also keep fresh water out for them. During the winter I go out and make sure the frozen water stays fresh. For now the birds are continuing to enjoy the feeder even in the rain. They seem to flock to the feeder even more when it rains. I enjoy watching and photographing nature in my backyard. Sharing a photo of a Bluejay eating peanuts from my deck feeder. Bluejays are very loud and beautiful birds. I can hear them before I see them. I also see cardinals, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, mourning doves, and sparrows. And every now and then a new bird shows up that I have not seen before. It is very rewarding to watch. @CarolDM We just don't have a backyard or anything where we live...and we don't stay at my grandparents long enough. He gets to see lots of squirrels at my grandmothers though.

I just ran into your pretty picture.. I wish there were bluejays here. Yes and yes on birds and coyotes and rodents here. Probably skunks, too. (3 sagebrush acres so not sure what to say on the backyard.)

@CarolDM You'd have a scope and binoculars at your elbow if you visited my place. The county has filled a ditch down below my place and created a waterway. Tons and tons of waterbirds visit. Geese and ducks and stilts etc.

@CarolDM no, the house sparrows and other birds nibble on the ripe guavas hanging in the tree. they can also swipe small insects in the grasses.

Sparrows are here but I wish they were not. They are enemies for my bluebirds in the spring. But I let them eat during the winter. Do you put out seeds or suet out for the birds?

That's a great photo, Carol! I sometimes see rabbits and hares in my garden, but they are unwelcome visitors as they do quite a lot of damage, especially the rabbits. Our cat is supposed to keep them away, but she is reluctant to chase the hares, as they are bigger than her!

Thanks Norman, they are such a challenge to capture, I have to stay indoors so they don't fly. I can see where wildlife could be nuisance to you with your gardens. Rabbits can wreak havoc as well. You need a bigger cat!

@CarolDM He is very pretty. Don't the birds fly south for the winter? I do not have a backyard. I live in an apartment building. I see birds when I am on my porch.

They stay in my backyard, some of the birds, all winter. The hummingbirds fly very south but return in the spring.
