I have a bad flu.

Not of the kind with fever, but my throat bothers me and my nose too. So I decided that I would start taking some antibiotics today. I will not suffer just because. A couple of months ago I waited too long with a stupid cold and finally I ended up taking antibiotics. The cold went away in 2 days. Do you take antibiotics for some of your ailments?

Did the doctor suggest antibiotics? I only take if really necessary.

@marguicha You told him, but he did not visit you? Here you cannot get antibiotics without a written recipe.

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you will get well soon. Usually I will take the medicine when it is necessary. Sometimes I will just wait for a few days and the situation will get better.

@marguicha Be patient. Usually it takes about a week, but you will feel better and better as time goes by.

If antibiotics helped it, then it wasn't the flu. Antibiotics don't work in viruses and flu is caused by influenza virus.

I don't like taking medication unless I know nothing else will work. My rule is 4-5 days and if no improvement then take medicine, another 5 days and then I go to the doctor.

Yeeeeeah. Many "bugs" are becoming resistant to antibiotics due to overuse. Not to mention antibiotics mess with the good bacteria in the gut, which can cause other health issues. I wouldn't take antibiotics for a cold or flu. There are plenty of natural things (Elderberry, high doses of vitamin C, tea, etc.) that will help reduce the length of flu and colds without resorting to antibiotics. Glad you're feeling better, though! Don't forget to eat lots of yogurt, kefir, fermented foods, etc. to get your good gut flora back on track!
