When I had my rural health practice program in Mahatao, Batanes islands in 1981, I was given a branch of grapes by our midwife in the rural health unit where I was assigned. This was when we were leaving the island after our 4 - month awaiting for the result of the nursing licensure examination. My late mother planted the branch. I didn't touch it because I know I don't have the green thumb. The branch grew some roots and had new leaves. It bore its first fruits in 1986 when I was in Kuwait. But the kids who often came to the house to watch TV (we were the first in the neighborhood to have TV) plucked the fruits. Apparently the grapevine hated that so it did not bear for some time. When my 3rd sibling came home many years later, he saw the grapevine so thick so he trimmed it. Then it bore grapes. It was sweet. That was the first time I tasted it. My mother also cut a branch and planted at the backyard. It bore fruits too. And now... My brother noticed a cluster of grapes so he pulled the vine inside our fence. Yes, there are 3 clumps of grapes still small. I am glad the grapevine planted by our mother still bears fruits. All in all, since 1981,the grapevine has nearly 6 times giving us fruits.

That is truly amazing. I assume that grapes need a good pruning every so often.

Grapes are expensive so it must be pleasing to be able to pick them in your own backyard instead of buying them.

yes, and besides, it is a joy to see them bear fruits because the grapevine was planted by my mother.

sometimes when we have big violet grapes, i keep some of the seeds and spread them in the garden. but i really cannot grow a plant because the seeds don't grow roots too.

Awesome. I never thought grapes will grow in a tropical area. All I know they will grow in a cold atmosphere. How I want to have a grapevine.

yes, grapes grow in favorable places. even the cherry blossom tree that is usually in japan because it is cold there, grew a tree in Baguio city or somewhere the mountain is so high and cold.

@JustBhem if not for my dear mother's green thumb, the grapes would not have grown. the main vine is sturdy now and deeply embedded in the ground.

There are no grapes trees in my area. Is it hard to raise one?

@Nickzter1331 as long as you can grow and tend plants, i believe it will be successful.

The grapes must be pruned every year after they bear the fruits to produce the following year.

@ridingbet The grape vines have to be pruned soon after they lose all their leaves.

it would be nicer if the grapes are full, violet, and like bouquets. the grapes here are just like that. less than 20 berries for every branch.
