Home from the hospital

I got home from hospital yesterday evening. To do so involved two buses as to where I live the price of a taxi was astronomical and I did not qualify for transport home even though I was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Once home, I was in as much pain as in hospital but thankfully fell asleep and am going to the doctor today. The boil or furuncle (that is what it says, and it is apparently a word for "boil." remains and has not burst. My car is at the surgery, and I have questions to ask the doctor, but thankfully this morning the pain killers kicked in and the pain has subsided. Anyway, apparently, if you have anything painful behind your ears, do not suffer but get medical attention right away as it is too near the brain to take chances. My brain seems to be working.

You are right, it's better not to take chances and go to see a doctor.

I think it was Staph and had it been left, there would have been the danger of sepsis, so I am glad I did not just grin and bear it, though I was not grinning much as it was so painful.

It makes sense to see a doctor when you have a boil on your head, especially on the danger triangle of the face.

Interesting. Mine was a "furuncle with overlying cellulitis behind my ear. Still apparently, you should not leave any boil. I did have an injury after falling in that triangle a few years ago. I still have a scar under my nose.

And buses back again. Normally, I have people who can help, but one passed away, another is in Australia, one moved and the remaining one had a childcare stituation and was unable to help until evening. She did bring me home after the surgery I then had to go back for yesterday.

Back there today. Immensley relieved a friend is offering me a lift and to stay again. Same friend as Friday, so she understands the score. I wish they had just kept me in till all this was over as it would have been so much easier given the journey to the hospital.

If you have doubts then you surely should ask your doctor.Do you know exactly if it was a furuncle?

Yes I do as that what it says on the release notes. In fact since writing this post I had fourteen injections of anasthetic in the head, gas and air and morphine and they did something surgical to my head. Pity they did not do it when I was in the hospital!

@nela13 They thought I was improving and oral antibiotics would do the rest. Initially they also thought there was not much to drain. This thing was a furuncle. That is, a boil. I am wondering if my attempts to sort it with a warm compress made it worse.

I would do it as well. I never have had boils though. Is the pain intense?

Yes, Boils are very painful until they break. This one just did not, The usual thing is to apply heat to draw out the boil. This time it was not working at all and I left it a bit late to go to the doctor not realising there was an overlying infection. I was in a lot of pain when I went to the doctor and medication was not hitting it.

@Janet357 No idea. They can be underlying other health symptoms though.

Glad you are getting things taken care of. I hope once the infection is gone you heal quickly.

The important thing is the infection was dealt with. Had I left it, it would have become serious, I think.

Then I had to go back again, by bus. It was not a journey I want to repeat. Thankfully, after the surgery, a freind was able to take me home.
