The home of Mr. Gregory West, one of America's most noted playwrights. The office of Mr. Gregory West. Mr. Gregory West—shy, quiet, and at the moment, very happy. Mary—warm, affectionate...And the final ingredient: Mrs. Gregory West. ---Opening narration, A World of His Own ---Episode Thirty-Six Of The Twilight Zone ---Directed by Ralph Nelson ---Written by Richard Matheson ---Original Air-Date: July 1, 1960 As I said yesterday, this is an especially scary Halloween. In just six short days, America is going to begin the righting of a horrible wrong that never should have happened in the first place. OR it will shrug, say, "So what?" And continue letting the wrong grow while at the same time throwing the USA on the trash heap of history. Merely mentioning any of that would seem a bit gratuitously terrifying, not to mention depressing because so much could go wrong, on a wonderful holiday like this. So I'm not going to. Instead, I'm going to focus exclusively on today's subject, my all-time favorite episode of The Twilight Zone. As good fortune would have it, it's a comedy. You Halloween Purists can settle down and shut up because I'm not trying to turn Halloween into a laugh fest. There is nothing wrong with that but we can argue about that some other time because it's not what I'm doing today. A World of His Own is funny but it does it with humourous scary things. The most amazing thing about it is that it became my favorite Twilight Zone without it being written or directed by Rod Serling. I have no explanation for that and maybe it's a good thing. Have you ever thought about how dull life would be if all unsolvable mysteries were solved? Me, either. Cause the whole notion is laughably absurd but it sure sounds thought-provoking and profound, doesn't it? But stop thinking about that. Let's get back to A World of His Own. It's a wonderfully funny story about a man who creates his own reality and how it complicates his life. And how he fixes said complications. I wish I could show you the entire episode but I couldn't find it on YouTube. I can, however, show you the ending, which is the best part. And that's what I will do now. Happy Halloween!

I love "Twilight Zone" and I love that episode. There has never been another show that compares to it. Got the entire series on Dvd which is probably un hip by now, seeing as it's probably streaming somewhere.... that said - I can watch whenever I want to, which is a nice feeling indeed. I can think of some things I would like to think into existence, too...

I don't think it's unhip. And there are probably extras in the DVD set that streamers don't get. I call that Hip And Priceless. Plus, I love ancient tech like DVD players. I saw one in a museum once! I can think of a few things I'd like to think into existence, too. Some of them I could even list on MyLot!

@FayeHazel They used to do that all the time. Do you remember the "More doctors smoke Camels" campaign? Of course not, cause you're not even that old. Even my really really old friend that you don't know at all isn't that old. OK, I'll start. I'd wish my own fully equipped working dungeon into existence. Because torture is such a big part of history and I love history!

@xander6464 Ah Hip and Priceless. So true, there are bonuses on some discs. I like when they include commercials of the era. I think there was even one where they were saying smoking was healthy. Ha. Oh uh, I'll let you go first then on stuff to think into reality - cause I'm having trouble keeping it pg13 over here lol

@celticeagle One Step Beyond also started in 1959 and Alfred Hitchcock Presents started much earlier (It wasn't always like The Twilight Zone but it did have many Twilight Zone-like episodes). Thriller with Boris Karloff started in 1960, one year after TZ. Then there were at least a couple from the very early 50's that were much like TZ and before that there were some on radio. And I know I'm forgetting some. The 50's were a very good time for sci-fi and fantasy on TV but Twilight Zone did it best. And of course, into the later 60's with shows like The Outer Limits and Night Gallery and good as they were, TZ still wins.

For all the competition it had, and there were many other great shows like it, it was the best.

So many great tales of mystery! Most with some kind of moral message about human behavior.

I hope it's better than the other remakes...Not that they were all that bad but they did pale compared to the original.
