Wish I'd Seen 'Em #3 - Freddie Mercury

Wish I'd Seen 'Em. It's a musical series about musicians that I wish I'd seen in concert, but missed for various reasons, and now that they are deceased, that opportunity is long gone. We are at #3: Freddie Mercury (1946-1991.) The timing of this, coinciding with the release of the film, Bohemian Rhapsody, is purely coincidental. But the fact that they've been trying for a decade or so to get this movie made says a lot about the love and admiration for this man. Freddie Mercury was, of course, the vocalist for the British rock band, Queen, one of the biggest selling rock groups of all-time, and deserved members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Freddie Mercury was, in my opinion, rock music's greatest frontman. A consummate showman, the guy could command an entire stadium to do his bidding with a mere simple gesture. Of course, it didn't hurt that the three guys working behind him weren't exactly slouches (Brian May ranks among my all-time favorite guitarists, after all,) but it all centered around Mercury's high energy, flamboyant stage presence. I just never got to see them. Although there are people that don't care much for the band (I can think of a couple people here on MyLot that don't exactly count the group among their favorites,) Queen is a pretty damn popular band. Getting tickets to see them was very difficult as it was. After they stole the day with their performance at Live Aid, it was pretty much impossible. R.I.P. Freddie. Thanks for the music. I wish that I could have seen you perform it in person. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

They were a tough ticket to get. Especially after Live Aid. Very popular here in Colorado.

Yes, I kept putting off going to see Queen. I even didn't make it to the free concert in Hyde Park, but I doubt I'd have seen much!

The videos dang near melt the screens. Can't imagine surviving seeing them live! And I agree with you, everybody else pales in comparison with Freddie.

High-energy and flamboyant - great adjectives for a great performer. He was certainly a showman.
