Practice Mantras At Bedtime

I have had problems with getting to sleep for as long as I can remember. I like to stay up late and, since I am now retired, I don't worry about it too much. But, I have found that practicing some positive mantras while laying awake and trying to get to sleep is helpful. Any about the life you want can be visualized and helpful at this time also. Working on reaching ten seconds of clear mind can get you to sleep in as little as 2 minutes. Relax your face. It holds an incredible amount of tension and you have to let that go. You have 43 muscles in your face so give them a break. Imagine pools of water that those muscles can melt into. Next the limbs need to relax also. Imagine them sinking into cool sand and let go of muscles tension in them as well. Let the hips and shoulders go heavy and loose. Let your spine move into the sand. It will probably take more than two minutes at first but over time you will be able to enjoy feeling your body relax into sand, earth or ocean. And sleep is just a few seconds away.

I usually hit the pillow right away but there are times when things can keep me awake. Great information will try something like that thank you. That is very good if they make you sleep right away good for you.

@celticeagle Sometimes it does and if you have neighbours above you that are noisy early in the morning even more so.

I've used different meditation techniques to relax and have a more restful sleep. It is also a good stress reliever. I do the sinking/melting one focusing on each body part too.

My mom taught me one similar when I was a child. Had problems then too.

@celticeagle Definitely It is hard to focus without your mind wandering. They say to just try again when that happens. Practice makes perfect, well in this case better? Meditating can certainly be a challenge

An 'exercise' learned about 10 years ago and use every night because it works--slowly breath in and then slowly exhale--do it 10 times and you will fall asleep immediately!

Sometimes if I can't sleep, I do a meditation technique that I taught myself.

It doesn't take me long to fall asleep. If it does, I work on a book and I'm asleep in no time.
