After Dhanteras and 14 diyas, on the 3rd day of Diwali, Goddess Laxmi and Lord Kuber are worshipped. The main attraction of the puja is the preparation where rooms are cleaned, new curtains are put on windows and alpona are given. Goddess Laxmi is offered flowers, fruits and sweets. Mantras like Om Jai Laxmi Mata is chanted. Lord Kuber is the Lord of wealth. He is also worshipped on the day.

You of all people should know that Diwali is distortion of Deepavali so I am trying to help people revert back. Diwali is truncated form of diwaliya which means going bankrupt. Because a lot of money is spent at this festival people (mostly men) began referring to it as Diwali as a joke, and somehow that stuck. Deepavali is both melodious to hear, as well as meaningful.

Thanks Vannyji you replied after some time. Hope you are well. In Kolkata, the 1st day is celebrated as Dhanteras, 2nd day 14 diyas, 14 spinach (choddo shakh), 3rd day Kalipuja and Laxmipuja (on amabasya), 4th day Govardhan puja and 5th day Bhaiyadooj (bhaiphota). Whatever it is my best wishes to you in the festival of lights.
