A lot of you know that I do freelance work in addition to working a day job and doing things on websites like this, Textbroker and several other sites.
Well I had posted something on my blogs instagram about being paid for my freelance work today, and someone sent me a DM telling me they wanted to be a freelance writer.
I then had to spend several minutes explaining that freelance work wasn't something that you could just pop into and suddenly make money. That it wasn't a get rich scheme and you weren't going to just write and get paid automatically. That it was work, and that I have been doing it for years.
They said that they were a hardworker, and I explained that that was a good thing, but that didn't mean that they would be able to make money from freelancing right away.
That the amount of money that I got paid today was for a week of work. And it was with a client I have had a working relationship with for over five years.
They just kept saying it would be different for them.....
I could not get them to understand that thats not how it works.

When someone wants to learn more about freelance writing, I send them the websites to look over and tell them what's involved with it (and I let them know that most orders require research, and there are deadlines, among editors to please). We all have to start somewhere, but I let them make the decision to move forward with it or try something else.

I tried to explain that to them but they didn't seem to understand. I don't think they really wanted to put the work into it..

I mean they probably think that because I posted something about it on Instagram it's easy. But it's not. Yes it was $230 but that was a lot of hours of work.

Just like the newbies here they think by posting little small articles throughout the day will earn them pennies but that's not the case. You have to interact in order to earn here. I know freelancing is alot of hard work and you have to put so many hours into it. I work a real job and would not have time to do freelance writing but I do love that I can come here interact and post while having fun.

Many are looking for a get-rich-quick scheme but there aren't a lot of those out there.
