The course I completed on Friday, organized by a recruitment agency, entitled me to attend a sign up session for work with another employment agency, the one I applied to in the first place. Both agencies gave me similar application forms, both insisted on seeing my passport and other ID. I arrived in plenty of time for the registration interview only to find that I had been given the wrong address by the first agency as the second agency had moved to a new office. Fortunately the lady in the shop next door to the abandoned office knew where the new one was and I just about made it for the time my registration was due to start, and still got kept waiting for over half an hour. There was no mention at my interview of the course. The agency seemed oblivious it had even taken place. They reeled off lists of some of the jobs they offer, many of which involve working for as little as a single day before being laid off again. I told them I want more consistent hours and shifts than that. They took my paperwork and vaguely promised to contact me if work comes in. I won't be holding my breath for them. I bought lots of Christmas cards ready to start writing them for my friends, and came home. Youtube about work - Dolly Parton 9 To 5 Arthur Chappell

One of the (many) joys of being retired is the elimination of interviews or even going for a job! Very few people here send snail mail Christmas cards--and now that stamps are going up in price again less people will.

@GreatMartin I only post about ten cards, I give most out by hand - I still prefer real cards to e-mail ones

@arthurchappell I still send out a few via snail mail but I must admit most are sent via the Internet.

At least the store with the Christmas cards didn't waste your time. That's something, at least.

@arthurchappell It's too bad everything can't go like that.

I bought some hand-made Christmas cards at a garage sale the other day. I haven't started writing them out yet.
