My image is of a one pound bag of asparagus I got in Aldi the last time I went. Asparagus is never very cheap even in the spring. I usually spend at least $1.99 per pound for it. This bag cost $1.69. It was already cleaned and trimmed. You were to cook it in the packages. So we had delicious asparagus for several meals last week. I even put it in an egg casserole. I like the things I find at Aldi.

Aldi is a great store and this is an amazing deal. I LOVE asparagus, but rarely love what it costs. I'd have bought several of these and froze them.

Too bad there is no such store around here. I love asparagus so I just have to have the canned variety.

I am surprised they are not there yet. They are part of a corporation with Trader Joe's. Canned is good, but I do love fresh.

@MommyOfEli2013 We do not have any Winco stores around here. Aldi started in Germany and does have some imported foods. I like a lot of their stuff, but some things I could do without.

I love bottled asparagus. I don't know how to cook it fresh. Any hints and how is the end result, firm? tender/soft?

This was to cook in the package, they were done, but still crisp and firm. Not mushy. I also have steamed it, over hot salted water. One produce manager suggesting laying it on a baking sheet and roasting it. Also very good.

Aldi can have good quality vegetables like asparagus. I am pleased that you were able to use it in your casserole. I rarely go to Aldi because it isn't within walking distance. I sometimes drive down to Asda which is close to a lot of other shops I need to go to like Home Bargains.

It is important to manage our resources by not driving too often or too far. Nothing is in walking distance from where I live.

You should go for bulk as travel will cost you too.

We plan several stops in the area when we go to Aldi, so that helps with travel expense.I have to be able to use the fresh food while it is still fresh, though or have time to prepare and freeze it.

Here asparagus is expensive too, because it is meant to be anticancer vegetable.

It has a short growing season as well. Yes, I have heard that it is anti cancer. So are some mushrooms.

It's no more asparagus season here. I have a few packages frozen in the freezer, I bought from Aldi too.

These were brought up from Mexico, so their season is different than ours. Here it will be June before we can pick it locally again.

We have one around the corner from work but I don't intend to shop there. I work in a grocery store and we've had asparagus for .99 cent per pound before and we sell our of it quick when that happens. What is your egg casserole you add it to sometimes? I've never heard of an egg casserole before.

It is also called a crustless quiche. Basically saute whatever veggies you want, and any meat, like bacon bits or sausage crumbles. Stir up eggs and milk with seasonings, pour it over veggies and top with shredded cheese if you like. Bake until eggs are done. Eat with meat sides or potatoes.or fruit, what ever.

@GardenGerty ok, understood. I've made many quiches before. I've never tried a crustless one though. I may have to check that out.
