Stamp Prices to Increase Soon

Get ready to pay more for a stamp. On Tuesday, the Postal Regulatory Commission approved a U.S. Postal Service request for the largest-ever increase in the cost of a stamp. The cost of a Forever stamp will rise from 50 cents to 55 cents, a 10 percent increase. Metered letters will go from 47 cents to 50 cents though the cost for each additional ounce will actually fall from 21 cents to 15 cents. The 5 cent increase in stamp costs is the largest since 1991, when prices increased from 25 cents to 29 cents, a 16 percent hike. The new rates will take effect on Jan. 27, 2019. I used to send cards to my Dad for his birthday and the holidays. Unfortunately now that he is gone I probably won't have the need for stamps any more.

Again? And a whopper this time. I guess they raise quick revenue but in the long run just lose more business in this online world.

Yep the highest since 1991. I honestly do not see how they stay afloat.

@CarolDM The government subsidizes them. That is the only reason they stay afloat. But they are really not afloat. They are drowning in debt.

The price will stay the same for this year, but our stamp is a lot more expensive than yours, it's a little more than 1$ for a normal letter.

@CarolDM Do you work for the PO? I keep hearing stories about workers stashing undelivered mail in attics, basements, garages, and even in the woods, going through mail and removing cash and gift cards, and so on on. I am afraid to mail anything.

@akalinus No I don't. I do not believe that but we all have the choice to make, to believe or not.

in my opinion now we need to be more difficult to send letters to our families far away, because we can call and send messages,

Geesh, they just had an increase to 50 cents in January? They did not even wait for the New Year to increase rates again What would Ben Franklin say? I guess a penny saved is a penny more for the post office

What is going on? Day by day if the prices are increase how the people will manage to control their needs? But increase in stamp prices? Not done.

If the post office quit sponsoring things maybe the prices wouldn't go up. P!us, they lost a bundle when no one bought those Bart Simpson stamps. Ok, I have ranted, and now I am done.
