A New Birdfeeder!

Earlier this week I spotted a Birdfeeder outside of one of the resident's windows at the local nursing home. I knew immediately that a Birdfeeder of that sort would give our small birds a chance at the feed. Right now, the blue Jays and the pigeons seem to spend so much time there that there's not much available for the chickadees of nuthatches. Yesterday, hubby and I were on a mission! We were successful! The feeder has been hung.....and the little birds are feasting on black oil sunflower seeds! I think this was an excellent buy and will provide hours of entertainment to us....and lots of food for the birds.

Not so much migration here....most of the summer birds have headed south. Now we put out seed for the birds that stay behind. The winter storm forecast for later today will hide much of their food.

This is beautiful and the birds eating there are protected, even from cats. I have to find one.

The small birds are flitting in and out of this feeder. They know they are safe inside and seem to be spending more time eating.

I had never seen a feeder like this one. I hadn't looked either. Maybe they've been around for a long time.

@HazySue we found this at a local, "Feeds and Needs" pet food store. They told us they can't keep them in stock....they sell as quickly as they bring them in.

@Morleyhunt We look at bird feeders in every store we walk into that carries them. I have never seen them either.

I've not gotten into feeding biggest yet, but I'd consider it once I retire. I hope the pigeons and other similar birds leave your seeds for those intended. I know they make specific seed bags for specific birds but I really don't know whether most birds will eat whatever they find out not?

The little birds can access both feeder. The bigger birds get the other feeder and what hits the ground (almost everything when the Jays visit). This seems to be working quite well.

Those do seem to work. We don't have too many pigeons, but do have a squirrel problem!

You're right saying feeders provide hours of entertainment although for us it's the birdbaths that they love,

In the summer we set out a birdbath.....it's never as popular as any Birdfeeder we have ever set out.

@JudyEv we have a freshwater pond behind our house (sort of). We have a River within a half kilometre....a tidal River...so the water is sometimes fresh, sometimes salt. We have an 'ocean' of water just east of us (within a km). There is no shortage of water.

It's great for the small birds. They can eat without the larger birds having access to their seeds. The other feeder provides food for the larger birds.

We love to watch the birds as they come to eat at our Birdfeeders. Hubby went out today and bought a second one. He was so pleased with the one we purchased yesterday.

When I saw a feeder like this on Tuesday, I knew, it was what we wanted. It might be a bit pricier than some feeders, but what I've seen in the last 48 hours....it's worth every cent.
