Whatever happens I hope we don't lose a good friend by talking politics.

I follow the news almost every day and night. It's a firestorm, in a figurative sense of the word. I have a friend who is an independent, but who likes Trump. well he calls people who are not GOP or Republican, LIBERALS, and doesn't say that in a good way. So, I try not to argue and that is because I value our friendship too much to get into it with him. But, for a few weeks as I Twitter share and Facebook share lots of news uploads from YouTube, that are from MSNBC, Washington Post, CNN and Democracy Now, to name a few, I think it may have had a negative effect on our long time friendship. But I am open minded and do in fact, listen to the views of those who still favor Trump, no matter what has recently been reported on the current events of the past several months. I listen and understand why it is important to protect our borders, keep a strong military and so on, but I am not a rich person who can afford to have my pizza delivered daily to my home and I can't afford a world cruise on a cruise ship. But, I do have faith in our country to not go down the wrong path. I have said it before and I will say it again, America is bigger than the parties that run it. Rich or poor, young or old, we are all in this together.

I usually enter debates about politics, but I don't mind if others have different opinions, even if they are quite the opposite. I don't like it when people try to force me to embrace their views. That's a no, no.

It sometimes sounds like that, but we all need to be a bit more accepting of the differences and embrace what matters most to both sides. If we don't we are doomed to failure almost as sure as falling off a cliff into a lake of fire by walking blindly towards the edge knowing there IS A CLIFF IN FRONT OF US.

@Kasjnak , So that may be why a lot of people have withdrawn from society completely. In the city of Dallas, TX, where tens of thousands live, people only get out when there is a need to get out, like to shop or pay bills but as to how often people get out and mingle and socialize has probably gone way down here lately from the stress of things happening all around us. Sure, there are lots of people out there and many cars on the roads, but people are doing more things online and less things in the real world where people actually gather to share in some kind of worthwhile event. It seems people have become super consumers is all. That is not my idea of a perfect life.

@lookatdesktop I agree with this point of view, I take people as they are. But then there are others that don't, this is a problem. It seems to me people are less tolerant nowadays, everyone is in a hurry, everyone is stressed.

I do not enter into political debates much, if at all. It isn't worth it, especially at this time when the republican party isn't being adequately represented. I am a democrat, and a somewhat strong one at that, but I don't see those representing the republican party as true representations either. I hope once the tumbleweeds blow by that we will have come out somewhat unscathed.

There will be scars and post traumas from it. I don't want it to be but I see more pain on the horizon and at the border.

@lookatdesktop I do not even have words for the blatant racism and ignorance that has been going on as of late. Those poor families separated, and the people in the caravan who only seek asylum will be coming to a country stirred up by the ignorance and hate of one man.

@ScribbledAdNauseum , Yep. And the president speaks only for himself and his constituents. I know there are many among us who would welcome those poor immigrants and show love towards them. I speak from my own self, not for the party that is running America into a wall. WE need no wall, we need to build more roads as there are many in bad need of repair, so people can get to where they need to get to and yea, it's a sorry time in America.

I had a cousin that I argued with about Trump. He said that Trump lied about some things but in the next breath said he believed Trump. He is the only person I truly argued with on politics. That I just could not let go. But I do have a friend that each election I avoid reading her posts and such as she gets maniacal about politics.

What's the old saying, never talk politics and religion?

But I like to talk about it. So I guess I need to realize there might just be repercussions I can't avoid.

The politicians are the problem, and the politics are all messed up right now. No common ground, no sense of purpose, just finger pointing and it goes both ways from the top down.
