Will I have one more sunflower?

More or less as an experiment, I planted one last sunflower seed on my balcony in September. It's "hella" cold here, by California standards, with lows in the upper 30s F (around 3 C), and the air quality is terrible, but my sunflower is still giving it "the old college try." I'm taking bets. Will it actually give me a flower?

Is your air quality suffering from the fires? I've read that things out your way are pretty bad due to the smoke and ash. I do hope you get one more sunflower.

@TheHorse I remember being in Seoul in the winter and people wore masks because of the additional smog from the coal and oil heaters. Even in the little village outside our post, some would wear them because the smoke from the on-dol heaters was so noxious.

@DWDavis Hmm. I have (American) friends who live and teach in Seoul. Are things better now?

@Kasjnak I reckon things unfold more slowly when it's cold out. I'll keep watching it.

@TheHorse I hope you'll post a photo with the flower next, that would be nice . Of course, it's gonna take a while, but that's no problem .

It seems you will, if you cover from the frost.

I have four rose buds, will they give flowers? Only the one who take care of the weather would know. IF (and only IF) we are going to have some sunny and warm days they will. If the night goes down below 32 F, they die.

If there is some way to cover it at night so it does not get frostbit. It is really trying. It is cold in Florida too. I think Dr. Demento is running around with his freeze ray.

@TheHorse Thanks for the laugh. He might be flying around in a helicopter and disturbing my atmosphere.

3°C is near the freezing point. I'd put it inside over night.

It looks like it's enjoying the smoke-diluted sun right now. Perhaps I will water it.

I'm guessing yes but it might be quite an apology for a sunflower.

I was thinking that too today. Flowers make seeds so there can be baby sunflowers. This one might just say, "Honey, it's cold, can we just snuggle tonight" I'm still hoping for SOME yellow, though.

My squash and cukes got froze out, they were producing just did not get to the size to pick, if I would have known it was gonna freeze I would have covered them.

Our fluctuations in California don't compare to those in most of the Country.
