Never Again

That’s what I said some 20 or so years ago after the first time I allowed my small children to complete a craft involving glitter. For those of you who haven’t had the joy of working with glitter, it has a tendency to stick to unintended surfaces. When combined with the childish tendency to sprinkle liberally it can quickly become a homemaking nightmare. One glitter craft. In the days that followed, I found glitter in the carpet, glitter on the walls, glitter in the sink, glitter in the two-year-old’s belly button. I continued to find glitter almost every time I cleaned the house for a year. We moved to another house and a few random bits of glitter moved with us. I stated clearly on multiple occasions that I would NEVER do anything with glitter ever again. Then last week I was handed a costume that needed some alteration for our community theatre’s current production (A Christmas Carol if you’re interested--the same show that about half the community theatre’s in the country put on this time of year). The costume has a tulle skirt that has a liberal dusting (I can’t think of a better term since glitter is not something that can be attached by sewing) of tiny bits of sparkly glitter. All I did was bring the gown into my home and the glitter nightmare began. Glitter in the carpet, glitter on my work table, glitter on my pants, glitter, glitter, glitter. Fortunately, I don’t have any really small children around so I don’t think it has gotten stuck in any navels. If I had ANY sense I would have said no. But I’m a sucker and if the right person asks nicely enough I don’t seem to be capable of standing my ground Have you done anything lately that you didn’t intend to ever do EVER again?

Moms who have never had an encounter with glitter can not truly understand and appreciate you post. Have you seen the group It's a Southern Thing on FB? It's really funny and they did an thing about glitter one time.

I've seen some of their stuff, but not the glitter episode. Everything they've done has made me laugh, it is all SO true

I missed this back when and I'm sure there are few things I'd never do again but until they're hit me in the face I can't remember that they are!

I will never get another puppy or kitten are probably statements that will eventually prove me to be a liar

@SophiaMorros Hasn't that already happened? And how is the little dog? So long since I've heard news of her that I've forgotten her name.

I agree, glitter is a nightmare. I said I wouldn't write another book. A month later, guess what....

Maybe you will take glitter with you into the grave if it is so attached to you?! :-)

@MALUSE ...and best of all my children will have the little bits of sparkle to remind them of me.
