The Little Red Hen

She's the one who went on shouting that the sky was falling on our heads and caused such a lot of commotion. It was also one of the first books that I learned to read. But these hens are not bothered about such matters and are glad to get out of their coop and explore. Looks like they have come to say good morning to the human inhabitants. I already wrote about the farm that my friends are running . It's been 2 years and things are looking up. These are free range chickens. Their brand name is Kamrupa. A local breed . My friend keeps them for both eggs and the chickens themselves. There is an agricultural market nearby where she sells them on a weekly basis.

A lot more people are buying free range eggs now that there are more brands sills in stores. I didn't realize those books made it around the country before the internet.

@responsiveme So did those books make it into your libraries and bookstores before the arrival of the internet, or are you young enough that you grew up with or on the internet?

@MarshaMusselman Not young, will be 55 soon Books were always available here...Lots of people read English in addition to their mother tongue. Then there were all those missionary schools which had a very good library. Of course the range was not so big in small towns and I loved going to bookshops when on holidays to the cities

It is very popular here for people to keep chickens these days, we did when I was a child but I have never had them myself since I got married.

I'd love to have chickens just for the eggs, but our town won't allow it.

@responsiveme They would, but our town won't even allow us to put up clotheslines! Someone had a rooster a few years ago, and the town made him give it away.

Do you think they it is because they may attract animals from the forest?

Yup that is Chicken Little. Was the little red hen the one who asked her friends to plant, water, grind wheat to make bread? Am confused now only ripe midage My friend keeps asking me to go over but can enjoy these only through the pictures as I have to earn my living elsewhere.

I love the photo. my daughter has chickens - free range and has a cage for night. Coyotes like chickens, the dog keeps them away during the day but at night they are sniffing the chicken coop. My daughter has only hens, she sells the eggs too...

They are so fun to watch... I had chickens when I was a kid, it was a 4H project but my parents had them for years after I grew up.

These go into their coop too, which I guess is a big one. As you say there are dogs around here in the day but the hens go in at night.
