Memories of a special Christmas tree

When our boys were very young we lived in Ravensthorpe in Western Australia. It is a small country town which has gone from boom to bust several times following the fortunes and misfortunes of various mining companies.
We lived in the town but a few miles out of town one early December someone put a few Christmas decorations on a small tree which was on the side of the road. This was very intriguing as whoever did it wasn’t admitting to it.
It seemed a really lovely idea so a few nights later we took our boys and the neighbours’ kids and drove out to the tree. We put a whole lot more tinsel on the tree and drove home again. And perhaps surprisingly, we told no-one what we’d done. At least it gave the town something to talk about.
Driving along the road at night the tinsel sparkled in the headlights. We’ve always thought it would be nice to do again but we’ve never been able to find a small enough tree close enough to the road but where it was safe to do it.
I have a snapshot of it somewhere but I’d have to find it then scan it so I’ll just add one of my favourite wildflower photos. It’s one of the sundew family and is insectivorous.

It was a lot of fun and the kids really enjoyed it. I was surprised they kept it a secret.

That would have been a surprise - to come across a decorated tree in a forest.

You mean someone placed that small Christmas tree so the people nearby can contribute with their time and resources in putting their owns decors? Oh , that is so nice.
That picture of the wildflower is so nice. I thought it a part of a Christmas tree with those raindroplets decors. So,beautiful wildflower!

That is huge here too and some spend most of the year preparing their outside decorations. Then people drive round looking at all the lights and drive all the busy drivers frantic by their slowness.

@JudyEv - What a sweet idea! I love little surprises like that. I'm sure the people in your town did, too!

@JudyEv - I love the fact that you kept the secret, even when people mentioned the tree. What fun!

It is, isn't it? And people driving through the town were intrigued too.

I wonder why that didn't catch on and become a small town tradition in the place.
