The Neighbors Started Decorating the Day After Thanksgiving

I couldn't believe how many were beginning to set up their yard decorations the very day after Thanksgiving. The nativity set on the right above is the sacred part of a very elaborate musical production with a more secular theme that fills the yard on the other side of the driveway. I thought I'd made a video of the full production one year, but I can't seem to locate it on YouTube or my computer right now so I can't share it.
I like the way this photo contrasts the secular and sacred meaning of Christmas. Which is most important to you? How does the way your family celebrates ( if you do celebrate Christmas) reflect that?

You may already know. We have a party for the less privileged Xmas time. No doubt there are Xmas decorations all over our house. We even have a crib,

Do you let the Bible characters dominate the decorations or do you also bring in Snoopy, Lucy, Rudolph, and some of the other inflatable characters I see around my neighborhood?

I can't believe how so many people feel the need to fill their yards with tacky displays... Especially those inflatables. When their pumps are turned off, they look so sad flattened out.

Here some have started decorating for Christmas after the All Souls' Day last November 1 .
But mostly, like us in the office, started our decoration just this week.
We also have that "nativity' but small ones only in our house, in addition to the Christmas trees and lanterns.

I am always amused by the way that crib scenes delightfully confuse the two Biblical accounts and produce something that could not possibly have occurred - even assuming that any of it was true, which is extremely doubtful.
Yes, we do celebrate Christmas, respecting the beliefs of other family members while not sharing them, and delighting in the opportunity to be reunited with them for what might be the only opportunity in the whole year.

You are, of course, entitled to your own interpretation. But many who put up decorations are just finding what's in the stores and bringing it home to their yards. Many probably have no idea if it's accurate. It is highly unlikely that the infant newly born was visited by the wise men, since the baby would have been two years old by the time they arrived. It was the shepherds who got the message from the angels and went to see the baby right after he was born. Although the Gospel writers weren't there to witness these events themselves, Mary certainly was, and she knew those who later hung around with Jesus so she could have given them her eye witness accounts of what happened.

The people with the nativity put on quite a light and sound show. They have a radio station, I think, and invite people to tune in while they look at their display.

Maybe you can make a new video to show up with your fancy new phone Here people put the decorations up early when we had a 50°F day. Then they just didn't turn the lights on until recently. Seemed smart to me since it can below zero soon.

in some neighborhoods, it's almost like a competition. There was one neighborhood in Downey, California when I was growing up where everyone had a yard that looked almost like a movie set before Christmas. I think there was a prize for the best display. People came from all over to see it. My brother lives in a neighborhood in Orange County where many people have equally elaborate yards, but not everyone participates in the way this neighborhood did.

The First Baptist church of Fort Lauderdale started presentation of their yearly pageant Thursday and it is spectacular--it is secular and sacred along with being Broadway worthy--I love it! (And I'm Jewish!)

I love traditional and some more modern Christmas music. It sounds like this pageant is something I'd enjoy.
