That is the hornbill. It gets its name from the projection on its beak.It is a large bird and rather bigger than the rest of the avian species found in the forest area. Formerly they were hunted for the beak which was used in the headgear by local people. But with conservationists stepping in, the tribes now use a fake hornbill instead. It is a forest bird.So imagine my friend's surprise when this unusual visitor payed a visit to her school PS..Photo of the hornbill looking into the classrooms

How close to the forest is this school? In our state we have birds that go to southern states for the winter months and once it gets closer to spring they migrate back to our state. It's not uncommon for most birds to move around somewhat. Maybe that particular birds was domesticated. Do people there do that type of thing, especially with birds or only certain birds?

@responsiveme Then if the forest is on the hills above the town, then the bird didn't have to go very far to get to this tree and that school.

The picture of this hornbill is from the forests on the hills above the town where the school is. Foothills of the Himalayan ranges. No it is not a domesticated bird . The people who used to make those head gears are from another part of the mountains towards the east and live in the forest

@responsiveme check the image below the bird's bill. the leaves are enlarged and in circular form so that means the picture in that area is enhanced. the hornbill is named kalaw here in my province

That bird looks quite amusing and he seems to be looking down. I don't think that I have ever seen a hornbill. Thankfully they are no longer hunted. The hornbill must have surprised the children at the school. I love wild birds in the world.
