The island in my kitchen collects so much stuff

I need to clear it off again! The ice cream maker is on it from the summer. I was going to make a batch of chocolate ice cream after the chocolate chip that I made. . . but that never happened. Oh well. Next summer. My sister gave me a bunch of mason jars of various sizes because I gave her a few jars of fridge pickles in the summer. I had no room to fit them in the cabinets so they've been sitting on the island. My asthma has been awful for the past 2 months for my nebulizer and the box of medicine has also been taking up residence on the island. I use them every morning and every night before I go to bed. There's also a Yankee Candle (Cranberry and Peppermint), half a bottle of red wine, and a platter and 8 cup measuring cup that need to be put back into a back room closet storage place. In case you haven't gotten the picture, the island in my kitchen is a hot mess. Too much stuff! The platter and measuring cup I can easily just put in their place as well as the ice cream machine. The mason jars, though. . . I have no spot for them but I know as soon as I throw them out I will need to go out and buy them. I'll probably just put them somewhere down in the basement. I have no OCD tendencies so clutter doesn't bother me but there comes a point where too much stuff is even TOO MUCH even for me.

I have issued a fiat in our kitchen that the island will be kept CLEAN at all times. I refuse to have it turn into a cluttered mess.

I periodically clear it off but it inevitably collects stuff.

@NJChicaa J and I actually agree that the island has to be kept clean. I love having a nice big space to work on, and it's actually getting me to cook more often.

@Telynor I don't have nearly enough work space but I do push stuff around and can manage when I need to

Oh, my! I must have OCD then. My island has nothing on it except flowers!

@NJChicaa I can see how storage would be a problem, especially in a kitchen. When we remodeled, I made storage a priority.

I have a small house with limited space. Stuff collects. I wish it wasn't so but that's what it is. Every now and then I have to do a clearing. . . throwing out, putting in cabinets, giving away, etc. You are lucky to have a huge house. Mine is very small and I'd be fine with most of it being small but I could do with a slightly bigger kitchen.

I hear you. My little apartment might be cozy but I sure wish I had more counter space in the kitchen. There is hardly any counter space at all and of course what there is has the toaster oven, slow cooker, hot plate and so on. The only other space would be a table I have there. So am thinking of decluttering also by cleaning off everything I have on the table so I have a place to mix and cut up food and whatever else I need to do. Good luck with getting your space cleared up.

I never think to put stuff in the basement where I do have space.

Mine collects all day and I clean it each night. I guess I have a little ocd because I do not like stuff piled up, everything has its place. One thing I hate is stuff sitting in the floor.

That does sound like a lot on your island...It's definitely not Crusoe's island

Definitely hear that! We have limited space as well and everything usually ends up on the kitchen table.
