Did I tell you that my friend's farm incudes rice fields too?
Well the rice is done and they are harvesting it now. This crop is a special type of rice. The grains are black. This rice variety was confined to a neighbouring state.
However efforts of agricultural scientists and the easy exchange of knowhow in today's world made the local farmers try out this variety.
It commands a good price. It is very nutritious and has a nutty taste. Boiled or steamed and mixed with milk and jaggery it makes a perfect breakfast cereal.
I am so looking forward to getting it from her as soon as it is ready for eating

@responsiveme Thank you. It's indeed difficult to understand. Cane doesn't grow in Europe. Obviously, it's not hot enough here. Here sugar is made from sugar beets.

@MALUSE thank you for the photo. I have never seen a sugarbeet or knew that such things existed.

It's a dark brown sweet residue from sugarcane. It is produced as a byproduct while producing sugar.

sounds delicious - nice that you can get it from your friend rather than from a more commercialized producer

@responsiveme And I forgot to say how lovely the flowers in the foreground of the photo are. Are they marigolds? They look so bright and cheerful.
