Yesterdays and Today

My friend came over and helped me get into the attic. That meant a bedroom awash with clothes I forgot for three years and a room awash with Christmas tree. The trees have finally got to the last possible year of use. My lovely big one with fir cones that lost its snow is outside now with lights on as it shed lots of needles, just like a real tree. The top of the lovely purple one that I used to take to church events and back home again all dressed up is all that is useable. This year I have a mini purple tree inside and not a big one. Now I am wondering what I dare risk on the outside tree. Freya slept on my keyboard and turned the whole thing into Arabic. It took time to sort that. We had the very last Alpha session at the detention centre which is closing down. It was strange to imagine not doing this again. (Alpha is a course for non Christians interested in Christianity.) Two men came who were not Christians and the rest we knew I do hope they get released before Christmas and can go home to their families. It was so rainy after the Alpha course a hoped for trip to Blenheim Palace was put off till next week when we would have been doing the Alpha course. It was so cold last night I couldn't bear to go out. I found a satchet of cat food for Freya, but she has to have milk now till morning. I got an Indian home delivery so that was dinner and for tonight too as one portion is enough for two meals. Today I go to a horse ranch to help the lady who runs it to do Facebook Live for her minsitry. I must remember my phone as the horses are nice to photograph. Its a little way into the countryside so a nice journey and I plan to go into Eynsham on my way back and visit my favourite charity shop. Then back to writing and also cleaning up all the dropped pine needles and sorting Christmas decoration and writing a sermon for the church I will visit at the weekend. That's when I will finally see Dad. He recovered yet again. He must have the constitution of an Ox. If he is 88 and multiple sclerosis knocks about 7 years off a person's life, then is doing very well. The choking stopped and it all turned into a blessing in disguise as mum had a rest and they will look at various things in the house to make life easier for both mum and dad. He may even get some physio at home. I should go back to sleep for a bit. I woke at 3.30 and have been doing stuff for the last three hours... Mylot is turning into an online diary....it kind of helps

Sounds like your dad is a strong man. It is a good idea to go around things that would be helpful to them. You are lucky to have both parents at old age.

In Australia, they are now very keen on 'ageing in place' and try to keep people in their own homes as long as possible. They have worked out it is cheaper for the government if they do this. The elderly can get Meals on Wheels if they want but also some help with housework, personal hygiene, monitoring of medication, gardening and handyman work. I think there is a small fee for some things and the services are a bit limited but mostly it seems to work.
