We have quite a few egrets hanging around with cows. It is nice to watch them keeping each other company. It is more with egrets wanting to hang around cows than the other way around. They tolerate each other in a friendly way This egret was taken for a ride by the cow through the length of this main road. I watched them and then clicked this photo.

It's a symbiotic relation, the cow has lice and parasites removed while the egret gets food and a cool place to perch.

On a close watch I only see them strolling together This egret is just enjoying the stroll looking around.

Our little willie-wagtails often hang around sheep and cattle (and kangaroos) and feed off the insects that are disturbed as the animals walk.

Why only cows in this case? They can get their food elsewhere. I have seen these birds just keeping the cow company. There are other birds who thrive on insects but they are nowhere to be seen near the cows

Usually birds stay on the back of cows because they like the parasite they can get staying there. May be this one simply enjoys a free ride.

That's so cool! We get Egrets when the water is high around here, but we don't have cows.
