One Giant Leap....Or Baby Steps?

New Years resolutions. The things we want to accomplish for the upcoming year. Lose weight, make more money, be nicer, be happier, live a more fulfilling life, stop smoking, stop cursing, drink less alcohol, drink more alcohol... The list goes on and on. So many people making so many promises to themselves that they usually break within the first month. It really hurts my feelings when someone makes me a promise and then breaks it. Especially if that someone is me. That's why I don't make resolutions for the new year. I try to make them every day. We all have things to work on, but a year is such a far away destination. I prefer to keep my goals within walking distance. That way, I know I can get there. Baby steps, ya know? I make daily resolutions. When I realize the error of my ways, I make a mental note to work on that. Not next year, NOW. There is no time like the present. I wish you all success on your resolutions, whether you try the giant leap of a year, or decide to take the baby steps like I do. I promise its much easier.

Me too. But many of the things that make a year good or bad are out of our control. That sucks. I lost both my Auntie and my academic advisor at UCSB this year. It is a year that will live in "infamy" in my personal life. But those things were out of my control.

@TheHorse You are so right. Most of the things in our life are out of our control.

No more resolutions, I am no more young, I want to live every day as it comes. Let's hope for a good 2019.

2019 needs to be a good year for everyone. It needs to be a good year for me. Past couple of years have been disappointing generally.

I take baby steps TOWARD goals, like playing bass. If I want to quit smoking or quit drinking, I will do so.

@cindiowens I agree. And ones goals have to be realistic.

I make 4 each year, 2 really hard ( like the cussing! ) and 2 easier. This year 2 out of 4 so far. I am hoping that 2019 changes my life for the better once again.

That is it. working on yourself now is the best practice. you can never tell what will happen even tomorrow not to talk of next year.
