Thought for the day: Empty pill bottles

You have to understand that I live almost alone...I live with Bill and he's just as bad...but I reuse my pill bottles. I don't always peel the labels off them when they're empty because they're handy to write on to let me know what's in the bottle. I don't have children or children visit so it's a safe habit (I also don't get the "adult proof" lids on the bottles. That's what I call the child proof lids.). Anyhow it's 7 a.m. and I decided to take my morning medications. Might as well get that done and over with since I've been awake since 5 a.m.. I couldn't believe it when I rolled out of bed that early!!! There's a whole world out here! Anyhow I ambled over to the dining table and grabbed my three meds from there and headed back to the livingroom where my computer is set up. I proceeded to reach for my pain pills which were among several different bottles of "stuff". The first bottle I grabbed was cotter pins. Men can explain those better than I can, except I can say that they are strong metal things that you insert through holes and bend the ends so the thing with the hole stays attached. Anyhow I use them for jointing teddy bears. Nope, not pain meds. The next bottle I selected had metal washers for the cotter pins. Then the third bottle, the most likely had....PINS! I had packed pins for a show and people were always getting into my straight pins without asking so I disguised them this time. BOY would they be hard to swallow! The fourth bottle was the magic one with the pain pills. No fuss, no muss, no panic....but BOY would those pins have hurt! They're three inches long and made for pinning corsages! So my frugal friends, IF you save your pill bottles for something else, relabel them so you don't try to swallow them EARLY in the morning! It looks like today is going to be another goofy day! 6:21 p.m. Pacific time. Okay dear readers, I just did it in reverse! I reached for the pins (the corsage size) and grabbed a bottle that rattled and popped the lid without looking and poured.....pain pills.....into the palm of my hand! The second thought for the day....don't eat 3/4 of a pound of broccoli cooked all at once! I couldn't figure out why I didn't feel to good, but after eating nearly a pound of that green stuff will really do it to you!!!!

I don't add other pills, I just use them for storing small items for the bear making business. I save things like glass eyes, cotter pins, #6 washers for the jointing of the bears, pins, and even some joints...which are fiberboard washer type things with a hole in the middle for the cotter pin to go through, then I bend them open to make the joint. But I won't store other pills in them for the simple reason that if something happens to me I want the doctors at the ER to have a good idea of what I take. I will add the remainder of the pills of the same prescription to the new bottle of like pills. I'm trying to get out of the habit of saving the pill bottles for small parts, but it doesn't always work especially if I'm in a hurry. Plus, like with the pins, I have about five different sizes of pins and it's nearly impossible to keep them sorted unless there is something to sort them into, so far the pill bottles have been the best to use because they are smaller and easier to fill and carry. Plus they come with the prescription.

We rarely empty pill bottles but I try to have one on hand as a safe receptacle for needles, pins, that are destined for the bin.

I use mine for taking small items like pins and needles with me when I take bear making work with me. I got a case of the giggles when I opened the bottle and there were the pins. I almost just poured the "pills" into my palm and into my mouth. Just call me porcupine mouth!

@JudyEv I could see me with quills sticking out of my lip...Bill and I love to smooch so it would be a bit painful to even think of kissing! Fortunately I removed the label from the corsage pins so I don't make that mistake again. OUCH! What a thought!

My go to is test strip cylinders. They have flip top lids. Yes, I have a pill bottle full of washers, and I fit bobbins down in some of the small ones. I have some large ones that I believe would make wonderful sewing kits to send overseas. My pills? mostly I take vitamins. I count everything into pill organizers, so I know if I accidentally forget something. But OUCH if it were to be a bottle of pins.

I am going to fill the pill organizer again tomorrow. There are only three pills that I don't put in it, one is my seizure medication and then my tylenol and my allergy pills. I do take vitamins and they get sorted into the organizer too.
