Can you guess?

One day someone sent me this picture. He asked me if i know what is shown in the image. I guessed. I thought it is the picture of some precious stones got by mining from the sea or something like that. Many a time i search answers for many questions in google. But i couldn't do that in this case because i can't insert this image into google search box. The picture shown above is the magnified view of sand!

I was going to say "stuff people choked on" but I guess not, although I suppose a few kids have choked on sand over the years.
