Chased away by a tuxedo cat

I filled all of my bird feeders, but I do not have many friends in them right now. First thing this morning, Princess went out, and stood guard, laying on the ground between the cedar tree and the feeders. Then she wanted in because Bob and I were eating turkey stew. I looked out from my chair a short time ago and there was a tuxedo cat observing the feeding stations. We have strays that come by from time to time. There is a yellow tabby that is fluffy, a dark gray tabby cat, a gray tortoise shell and then this tuxedo cat. Princess does not like to see any strangers in her yard. I have included a free image from online of a tuxedo cat. I learned that they are not always just black and white, although that is what I think of when I hear the term. The picture is unlike my visitor as my visitor was more fully grown and had white stockings clear up the back legs. Anyway, if you were a bird I think you would avoid the territory of a tuxedo cat, whether he had binoculars to watch you or not.

What type of cat is your princess? I am sure you have told me before, but I have forgotten. The neighbors have several cats, one of their cats is a tuxedo cat similar to this image. The cat has come up to me once and on her name tag is printed "Princess". I am sure she probably thinks she is. My friend has two cats and a bird feeder outside one window. When I am spending the night, I often awaken in the morning to her looking outside, hoping to spot a bird.

Princess is a solid black domestic shorthair. I am glad your neighbors care for their pets and tag them. This image just looks so inquisitive. One of my cats liked to lay in the windows and make barking sounds or chattering sounds at the birds outside.

@GardenGerty That's what my friends cat does as well, the chattering atleast. The first time she heard her cat make a barking sound was when there was a package delivery on the front porch. She said she didn't know her little muted calico was part guard cat as well. I'm glad they do to. Though I think the neighbors pets like to congregate in our yard the most. Speaking of tuxedo cats, I believe I might have mentioned this on mylot before. I witnessed an initiation of sorts by the tuxedo cat community. It appears as if the neighborhood tuxedo cats (about five of them in total, plus a smaller not quite kitten one) initiate new members by teaching them how to chase a squirrel up a tree. It happened right outside my window and I'd have taken video but I couldn't get a good shot of it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh we have so much live entertainment when we just look up. Often it is too fast to film, though.

The coloring on these cats gives them real personality.

Observing a cat is as much fun as observing birds. It's too bad one is prey for the other,

@GardenGerty I understand that Princess feels they are intruders and does not want them on her territory.

Birds should know their feed was being watched but never trust a cat (lol)

I've never heard the term 'tuxedo cat' before. You learn something new every day!

Doodles is a tuxedo cat and figured out that if he hid in a bush under a tree that dropped berries, he’d catch a bird when it flew to the ground. My son took out the bush and had the tree cut down. lol Here he is!

I think Doodles, @DiannN's son's cat is a tuxedo cat. Very pretty cat. The birds probably won't go near the feeders with him around.

Tuxedo cats are very pretty. I hope to have another cat one day but for the moment we'll just enjoy our little birds.

at least he was dressed in his formal dinner wear. all he needs is a top hat and a cane, maybe a monacle, but that could be a touch over the top.
