One of the many things I do each morning is feed the birds. I also check the bird bath. During the winter it freezes. And the photo above is how it looks. Usually I can empty the ice out but some days, with a hard freeze I have to dig it out. Thankfully that hasn't happened yet this year. It is very important to keep fresh water for the backyard birds year round.
Now the birds are fed and watered. The sun is shining. Today will be a good day.
How is your day going? Do you feed and water the birds?
There is my photo. Tah dah!

I dont care for the wild birds. But I do have a pond that stays partly unfrozen where they can drink.

@CarolDM They hang around anyways it seems. But no baby birds hatched close to the house anyways because of the cats. We even have red winged black birds during the summer. I love the contrast on those.

@CarolDM Those nest out by our pond. They can be very aggravating if you get close to their nests.

@wolfgirl569 Yes when there are outdoor cats they get the babies. Mine stay indoors. And we have those as well and the red is so stunning to see on their wings.

Well we woke up to a few inches of snow....by mid-day it started melting though and when I went home around 6 PM, the roads were completely clear as if it never snowed! Glad a hard freeze hasn't happened there yet and you were able to feed & water the birds without having to dig out the ice!

We fill our birdbath and let it over flow which helps clean the water in the birdbath.

We have dog dishes for the birds to drink out of and the water freezes in those sometimes. In the summer we water them like 5 times a day and in the winter is it only once

They can't bathe in the ice, I change it every day. This was the before photo of when it was frozen. But no, the ice would not make them sick if they were able to get some water from it. Why do you think it would make them sick? It is clean water.
