The age of whys and difficult questions. My daughter, who is 6, asked me yesterday if Santa Claus exists. Before I gave her my answer I asked her if she believes in Santa. She said she does but some of her friends are saying that Santa is their fathers
I remember how much I enjoyed the idea of Santa Claus when I was a child and I tried to explain her that Santa can not be the one to deliver the presents to all the children of the world, as well as to guess what each one liked to have, the parents have an important role helping him.
She was happy with my answer and keep playing without making more questions about it.
I think it is a matter of time and maturity, right now I think it is important to understand that this season is not only presents, it is also sharing, help those that are in need and believe in a better future and Santa is only a human representation of a message of kindness that helps to bring some magic to children.

As soon as I started to go to school, I knew. I went to a catholic school and the nuns took a great pleasure to break our dreams and told us that the only meaning of Christmas is the fact that Jesus was born and we must remember to thank our parents for the gifts they buy to us. I was upset, but I said nothing to my parents, I fainted to believe in Santa for some more years.

This reminds me of my childhood. No one in my family told me that Santa is not real. So I just kept on believing he is real. I really did my best to be a good child. And before I went to sleep, I would get my sock and hang it on my window wishing that when I woke up, there would be gifts for me.

I think I was 8 years old when I started questioning the existence of Santa, and I made up my mind that he didn't exist, without asking my parents. I remember walking into the kitchen one morning and telling my mom that I knew Santa wasn't real. She turned to say something to me, but I cut her off before she could get a word in. I said, "Don't worry, I want say anything to my brother." My brother is 2 years younger than me, so I didn't want to spoil the magic of Christmas for him.

I think you handled that situation very well. You answered that question without spoiling the existence of a Santa Claus in her eyes.

I've never told my child that Santa is there, because I did not want to believe in fairy tales and so I grew up, because life is raw. I believed in fairy tales, and then in the worst way I realized that life is not a fairy tale. I did not want that my child to pass.
