Unusual pets

When I was a charity seller I visited people's home and I often saw the pets that people had. Most of them were dogs and cats, but I few times I saw pets that I didn't expect to see in a private home. One family had a cage with pet squirrels, but the pet that surprised me the most was a monkey. The family lived on a farm and when they opened the door I noticed that they had a monkey in their living room. They kept it as a pet. The Danish rules about pets are complicated. Some unusual pets are allowed, others are not allowed. It also depends on the time you bought them. People are allowed to keep some unusual pets if they bought them before the new rules, but you are not allowed to buy them today.

I wouldn't dare to have a lion and a lioness as pets. that sounds scary. We only have common pets like a dog, rabbits and a guinea pig.

@Karenmm Some people also eat rabbits here, but other kinds of meat is much more common, especially pork, beef and chicken. A few people have many rabbits and eat some of them, but rabbit meat is not very popular here.

@Fruity_ Unfortunately I get an allergic reaction from cats, that is the reason why we aren't going to buy a new cat. I miss our old cat. Here pigs are allowed in the countryside, but not in the rest of the country.

@Porcospino it's sad that you don't have cats anymore. In my place, no one takes pig as a pet as pigs are considered as cattles .

Rabbits are common here, but they are usually kept outside in cages off the ground so they will be safe from certain predators. Dogs and cats are in many homes here along with birds like cocatoos, parrots, and I don't know the different types, but I do know several families that have them. I've heard of monkeys before, but I don't know of anyone that has them. Kids will have hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats kept in cages. Liizards and snakes are popular with the boys and we had a lot of fish and one turtle when I was younger. We never had dogs or cats, though, growing up.

Here rabbits are kept both inside and outside. Some people keep them outside, but many people prefer to keep them inside. We keep ours inside. Hamsters and guinea piges are popular here. I have had two friends who kept snakes as pets. I wouldn't do that myself. My cousin had two turtles. In my childhood I had dogs, birds and a guinea pig. I never had a cat as a child because my father hated cats.

@MarshaMusselman We had dogs in my childhood, and when my husband and I moved into a place where we were allowed to keep dogs we decided to get a dog, too. He is 9 years old now. Some people here also keep ferrets as pets. I have never had one, but I have seen them in other families.

@Porcospino my husband doesn't like cats either for some reason. So when our kids were and for we did have a dog for about ten years. No one but new ended up liking her so we found her a new home. It ended up being a good idea a as my husband almost spent almost three months in the hospital. I just remembered the set years ago ferrets were all so popular as house pets.

It is the first I hear about someone who had a tigress as a pet. That is definitely an unusual pet. I wouldn't dare to have that kind of pet in my home. We have pets, but not unusual pets just a dog, rabbits and a guinea pig.

@Shivram59 Yes, that is also what I thought. It sounds very dangerous. I am happy that we only have common pets. Our dog is a Golden Retriever, he is 9 years old. I like dogs a lot. I was surprised to see the family who kept a monkey as a pet. It is not illegal here, but I didn't expect to see that kind of animal in a private home.

@Porcospino I was told that gentleman was an officer in a wildlife sanctuary.I fully agree with you that having a tigress as a pet is very dangerous. She may any time attack the family members of her master.

I have only seen a pet squirrel once, and that was the family I visited when I was charity seller. I wouldn't know how to take care of them if I had one. I have only had common pets like dogs and cats.

@dya80dya One of my friends kept snakes as pets. I didn't want to get near them. She asked me if I wanted to hold them, but I said no, I am afraid of snakes.

There are many different kinds of charity sellers in Denmark. I collected money for the kidney association and the lung association. I sold lottery tickets and magazines.

I like other animals more than monkeys. I wouldn't like to keep a monkey as pet. I was really surprised to see a monkey in the living room when I visited that family.
