I read an interesting article talking about the dependence on GPS software....

The article basically said we would be lost, without our GPS and mapping software. That made me think about learning how to use a Platt Map. I was talking to a good friend and asked when they learned to read a Platt map.
They said "what's a Platt Map?"
In the US, the United States Geological Service (USGS) publishes maps of the US. They are detailed maps that have contours showing the rise and fall of the land represented by the map.
I learned to read one more than 40 years ago. But I have come to realize that people don't use them anymore.
Do you still use a Platt Map?

@docandersen I never use gps. An old fashioned map does the job fine. Bedsides, I don’t like a cross-sounding woman telling me what way to do things in the car - I get that elsewhere.

I use the GPS heavily while boating, but when out and about on foot I prefer the maps I learned on as well!

For finding places in the city ,I ask people if the the place is hard to find. Somehow the voice in the GPS confuses me.
We had to study maps from Atlases in school. There were physical ones..Is that platt? showing mountains, rivers etc and political ones which showed places

I always use my GPS in the car, never on foot. Excellent points!

I have no GPS. Nothing beats a real map as long as they keep making them.
