Diary Saturday 15th December 2018 Today involved shopping, and a cinema visit. I reviewed the film, Aquaman, in a previous post and it is a very good movie. Getting to and from the cinema was cold and wet, rather apt for a film mostly set underwater. The cinema service was appalling. I ordered a Coke and they tried charging me 18 pence extra for it as there is now a ‘sugar tax’ imposed by the Government. I never knew of this. I insisted on changing my drink for the diet brand on sheer principle. The lad on the kiosk told me there was a sign up telling people about the new tax and it had been on display for months. First he had to move several display items to show me the notice, and the assumption that I should have seen it on previous visits to the cinema was rather startling too. I was being treated as unreasonable for not being that much of a regular customer. Worse came when I ordered some nachos and he made no effort to ask me if I wanted melted cheese or jalapenos with them. I did. By way of apology he offered to get me extra jalapenos but one of his colleagues ordered him to serve only the regular amount. Diary Sunday 16th December 2018 My Firefox server crashed and I ended up spending much of the day reinstalling it. I checked the weather forecast for the week to come. Diary Monday 17th December 2018 I spent the only nice weather day of the week wandering round Liverpool, mostly taking photos of pubs but also lots of statues, churches and war memorial too. I must have walked about twelve miles. Diary Tuesday 18th December 2018 Today was the last discount lucky dip food collection before Xmas and New Year and a chance to see many community centre friends for the last time this year. Great news that the two staff members who cut me out of the volunteer Xmas party are both leaving when their contracts run out at the end of the year. Good riddance frankly. Diary Wednesday 19th December 2018 I checked bus times for over Xmas, and contacted the council as they have not yet paid me the money they have owed me back since the start of October. I was told that it can take ‘a few days’ which the lady I spoke to repeated often despite my pointing out that three months is not a few days. She told me my payment is set for New Year’s Eve but later phoned me to tell me it is actually due on Christmas Eve. Though the food from the supermarket sweep is nice it was not enough to keep me going to January 9th when the next event like this takes place, so I made a rare visit to the food bank, a charity offering free food for the low waged and unemployed. I therefore now have enough food to see me through the Xmas break. I booked my coach for my trip to Manchester on Saturday. Diary Thursday 20th December 2018 The final job club of the year and I gradually started packing for my weekend away. Arthur Chappell

Some places here have a local sugar tax. I wish they didn't exist but they will probably spread.

it amounts to charging you more for the priveledge of poisoning you and making you more obese. All those pesky people gong on diets are affecting our livilihoods so we'll tax you to compensate ourselves for their healthy lifestyle

I wonder if they will bring in a sugar tax here.

Hasn't the sugar tax been around for a while?? In the shops the *full fat* {as we call them} are now more expensive, or the same price for less, than the diet/sugar-free options. Just be careful when indulging in Coke ... the Coke Zero bottles are now mostly red instead of black, which is confusing. But not for us; Husband and I are diet drinkers.

I like some of the diet varieties I find the Zeros just taste like water which is apt to their name of course

Quite a mixed week. I tend to avoid the no-sugar drinks with their laxative substitutes.
