Backyard plants on top of your carport roof.

The carport is usually made of wood and sheet metal. But the roof top of most carports gets pretty hot from direct sun exposure. Solution would be to place a platform, like a box planter that covers most or all of the roof of the carport, that stands independently from the home as a place either to park a vehicle or to put outdoor furniture under to be shaded from the direct sunlight and provide protection from rainfall. The idea is to plant something in the rooftop box planter, something that could grow year round, be nearly maintenance - free and be attractive. You might build a ladder along one or both ends of the carport to be able to access the planter to maintain the plants. If you had this kind of carport roof that enabled green growth, what would you plant in the boxed planter that rests on top of your carport? I would plant honeysuckle if nothing else.

I think cucumbers and melons. That way I would have snacks right there.

I love passiflora or wisteria that would give some cover. Honeysuckle is good because it would attract bees too!
