Many people have a habit of popping painkillers at advent of slight pain. Some of them are even addicted to painkillers. I take painkillers only if pain becomes unbearable and crippling. What about you?

Luckily I have seldom had the need for painkillers. But for a headache or backache, if it gets bad I'll take an OTC pain reliever like ibuprofen. The last time I took a painkiller was 10-12 years ago when I broke my elbow. The doctor gave me a prescription, I only needed to take a few of them, I wasn't in constant pain, and most of the time it wasn't so bad that I needed to take them. Last April I was in the ER and the doctor wanted to give me a painkiller (shot) before performing a cardiac catheterization through my wrist. I asked what the medication was, he said it was an opioid. I refused and asked if there was something else I could take, he told me valium so I opted for that.

@deazil Oh Valium - that's a sedative. By opiod painkiller, your doctor must have meant morphine. Anyway good to know you never needed painkillers - you seem to be mentally very strong.

@deazil Ah oxycodone - that is the latest opiod painkiller my mother was enquiring about. I think kratom is made from leaves of some topical evergreen plant I guess and has direct effect on brain like opiods. But I prefer three pegs of scotch as natural painkiller

@deazil Oxycodone was the painkiller which my mother had taken when she visited my brother in US. I doubt if it is prescribed here in India. I will have to check if kratom is available online. My mother suffers from osteoporosis and at time suffers from excruciating pain in ankles. Thank for informing me about krotom.

I do not like taking pills unless recommended by the doctor. If any pain becomes unbearable then may be I would take one tablet. But if I feel the need of taking a second one then I prefer visiting the doctor.
