I Really, Really Want Coffee Right Now, and My Christmas Surprise Wasn't a Good One

There are reasons why it's better to do things as they come up and and not put them off another day. I wrapped the gifts for my family for Christmas, although they didn't get them until late. But mostly because it's hard for me to stand for long periods of time and I was wrapping gifts at my bed, I've been doing them a little at a time. I wrapped five gifts that I took to their house on Friday during lunch. And, I wrapped a few things for my husband and my daughter in time for Christmas eve, but what I needed for our Chinese Auction, Christmas exchange I saved to do yesterday along with what we're giving our newest addition to our family, our step-granddaughter tonight. Those things never got wrapped yesterday. I woke up with pressure behind my sinuses and as the day progressed it got worse. Eventually, I wasn't sure whether I had a migraine or sinus headache. I did take time to fry the hamburger for chili the night before, so all I had to do is open up the tomato sauce, beans and add the seasoning. I did't feel awful at that time in the morning, so I had a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee while waiting for the chili to heat up on the stove. Since we were heading out for our Christmas celebrations I planned on taking the chili in the crock pot for ease of travel. We were not supposed to arrive until 4pm at my nephews home in town, but by eleven am, I went to bed as my head was getting worse. I still didn't know whether I had a migraine, or sinus problem or maybe a bit of both. For migraines it feels good to have a cold compress on your forehead, but I discovered that it's good to use a hot compress when it's sinuses because that helps melts the clog out, in layman's terms. When I only have sinus pressure, I can do things without needing to lay down and hide the light. Oh, and it was a gorgeous day, sunshine, blue skies and not the weather I normally have with sinuses. Eventually, I took a couple of Excedrine for migraines and again some hours later and either that helped, or whatever I had was running it's course. I think I might have had a mild flu, but I don't really know. Maybe it was just a migraine. I sent my husband and daughter out with the chili and a gift for my sister. It's the first Christmas in my memory that I was ever sick for, but I'm sure I've had to stay home before when the kids were younger and sick. So, you're probably wondering about that coffee right now? I've been having several cups throughout my day from when I get up, but maybe I'm dehydrated, so I'm trying to stay away for now until I can down some bottles of water. I still have to wrap the gifts for our step-granddaughter and I never got our Chinese auction gifts wrapped, but will save those for another year. I have family visiting from Detroit and Va this week. I will be here when I can. Maybe I'll have a bit of time today since I'm not heading to my brothers as people are doing various things today and we're heading in the other direction tonight for my daughter's home, but if you don't see me a lot I'll be with family and I'll catch up before they fall off the screen, meaning the notif's. I'm feeling 100% better once again. Picture is of all the gifts I purchased this year in the different family groups to help me remember.

At 8:30 last night I began to feel better. Earlier I thought I was better but still had a residual piece of pressure either on my one cheek bone or later on my eyebrow. But, finally it all seemed to move on. I got up and spent time until 2:30 on the recliner. I was going to make myself a cup of ramen noodles, but although I got things out, I didn't really want to sit in the kitchen for the three minutes to wait for it to be done. My husband made it for me once he got home. Today, I'm in good form again. Most of my family is here for the week, so I'll be visiting with them as much as possible most days other than today. I did try to drink water and vernors yesterday, but I'm sure I didn't drink quite enough. If I down a bottle or two of water now, then I could probably allow myself some coffee a bit later. I hope your Christmas was nice, Dianne. I don't remember, did you fly back home to spend the days with your son and granddaughter, or just with your friends in FL? Did you pick out a spot for that birthday trip yet? Maybe I'll read 'all about it' later.

Aww I am so sorry you came down with something so suddenly and had to miss the Christmas dinner. The Chinese auction sounded fun! What did your daughter and your husband get from the auction? Glad you are already feeling better!

@shaggin When I use those cups it takes me months, literally to clean them. I can't be bothered. I should be bothered, but I don't. I just threw two away that I purchased a couple of years ago for that reason.

I didn't get around to wrapping the gifts to take there, so my husband didn't take anything or get anythingj. My daughter got a coffee mug but gave it to me. I want one that can be put into the dishwasher and we think it's the type that can't be washed that way.

I'm sorry you had a migraine or a sinus headache and weren't able to go to your sister's to celebrate. I'm glad you're feeling 100% better.

Had I known for sure that was all that was making me feel crappy, I might have gone after supper once I started feeling better. But, because two grandnephews also had similar symptoms, but also threw up, I figured it must be a version of a flu. Later I learned that those two boys felt better later and for them they probably had too much candy. I had a great time the rest of my week with my brother and sister in law that hosted everyone and my sister and her family that were in town visiting for the week.

@just4him I was glad to hear that too since there are five kids in the family. Had they had the flu there's a chance all our families may have gotten whatever it would have been. This was much easier.

@MarshaMusselman It is always good to be cautious. I'm glad it wasn't anything serious with your grandnephews.

You still have the passion to write a lengthy story to share with us. I believe you have recovered from your headache and sinus. Since you are sick, you should not drink coffee. Just seek for someone help in your house to wrap the present. It is nice that you still wrap it and present them to your grandchildren even you are not felling well.

Thanks, but I wrote this the next day and was feeling fine by then. I just knew I should drink more water since the fluids I drank the day before was minimal.

If you had body aches, it was likely the flu and was very short duration due to the healthy things you have been doing before. Peppermint oil or basil oil applied to temples and base of skull are supposed to help. I get those mixed up kinds of headaches and sometimes nothing helps except sleep. I get them much less since I take magnesium supplement and have increased magnesium in my diet.

Thanks. If it was the flu, it was short, not even 24 hours. So, maybe it was just a combination migraine and sinus pressure. I've no idea if that's even possible. I will enjoy my week with family, so even though I couldn't partake of the festivities yesterday, I'll live. I hope you and your family had a nice celebration too.

@m_audrey6788 My husband likes watching a lot of the newer movies out for this season. I watch some with him but if I watched them all I wouldn't get anything done.

I wasn't in time for Christmas for I spent that day in bed mostly. I was myself again the next day, yesterday when I wrote this. I added, later, that I was one hundred percent better because many people thought I was still sick. I'm going to buy something suggested by the wound center nurse for sinus headaches and see if that works better than other things I've tried that didn't touch it.

I'm glad your feeling better again, my daughter has some sort of fluish coughing thing and so do most of her kids. A lot of sickness around these days.

a lot of times when the weather is warmer people don't tend to dress correctly outside. I don't believe the cold brings the illnesses, but if a body's immune system is down and they don't dress right I think it can be easier to get things. Mine was more headache so maybe it wasn't the flu after all. I didn't want to take any chances by going out to the party later just in case. I don't think anyone else seems to be getting it, so that's good.

Since I didn't know for sure what I had yesterday, I decided not to go out for the rest of the evening to hang out with my family as I didn't want to pass anything I may have had on to anyone else. If I did have the flu and passed it to someone else, then I would feel guilty. Today, I'm staying mostly home because the family that is in town visiting won't be around today.

Took me lots of time trying to wrap up all the gifts this year (I hired a young relative to do that for me last year but she did such a bad job of it, that this year she declined LOL). Took me more time again for the Christmas shopping whenever I got some free time from work. Hope you recovered completely by now.

That's okay that you didn't catch my point. I'm saying that being sick for Christmas wasn't a good surprise. But, I'm better now and became better last night, so all is well. I'm guessing that you don't celebrate Christmas? I used to know a guy on a different writing site that married his wife from Indonesia. Whenever I see anyone here I always wonder if they might know him, but I've no idea which city he lived in. He used to travel between America and Indonesia as his wife stayed there.
