Walmart Grocery Pickup

I know I have been on here before ranting about Walmart (How I am not their employee and I refuse to do self check out blah blah blah) and the way they do things. This time though, its not a rant. Yesterday I downloaded the Walmart grocery app and decided to give it a try. I ordered what I needed, paid with ease, and clicked submit. It told me that I could not pick up my order until the next day. Oh well, okay. No big deal. So this morning, I got a text on my phone: Your Walmart Grocery order is ready to be picked up. It was pouring down rain (it still is) but I went anyway. I parked in the pick up section of the lot, and within minutes a nice lady in a raincoat brought my groceries to the car. She said, "We had to make a few substitutions." Here we go... "We didn't have the Walmart hamburger buns you ordered, so we substituted Ball Park. We also didn't have the pack of 50 paper plates, so we substituted 150. We didn't have the small pack of Haribo gummy bears, so we substituted the large pack. No charge for the upgrades. If we don't have what you order, we substitute it for a bigger size or name brand for no extra charge." What??? All I could say was "WOW!" I had made a list of what I ordered, to check against when I got home. Everything I ordered was there. I was amazed. I probably saved a lot of money too, by not going into the store. I am one of the worst for impulse buying. Walmart, You did real good this time.

I'm so glad it worked out for you. I'm still waiting for the Wal-Mart closest to me to have grocery pick up. They finally have it at the one across town. My daughter just started working for a grocery store as a grocery picker for online orders. Not Wal-Mart.

@cindiowens I hate looking for a close parking space and wondering if they have mobile carts available.

Oh wow that's great. I am surprised they didn't call you to discuss the substitutions but I guess their policy is to just substitute. That was awesome of them. I think you can also walk into the store and pick up your thing right at the entrance. My walmart has both. How much did it cost you to use the service?

It was free. And, I got a $10 coupon off my order because it was my first time!

I'm impressed! I still like to do my own shopping, though.

Most of the time I hate shopping. I always spend too much and come home with nothing. This way, I can plan my meals and order accordingly with no impulse buying. Perfect for me.

I totally agree with you on self-checkouts---I hate them, too. I also echo your "WOW!" I fully expected you to say that the bigger items were charged at full price but that you had the option of returning them in some long process that amounts to the same trouble as fighting a speeding ticket. And then if you were successful, waiting for a full month or more to have the money credited to your card. That's the typical Walmart way. I'm questioning all reality at this point but so far, yeah, Walmart is doing a something right. I guess that the next step is delivery and if they do that right, I might have to take back some of the things I've said about them.
