What time is it?: #1 "Time Has Come Today" The Chambers Bros. (1967)

“Time Has Come Today” topped my list of psychedelic songs and takes grand prize here. Talk about favoritism. Fourwalls excluded “Time Has Come Today” from her cowbell countdown which I dispute! No other rock song features cowbell as prominently as this one and mercy, they beat the heck out of that cowbell. Two cowbells pound out tick tock. The Chambers Bros. were African American brothers George, Joe, Willie and Lester plus white drummer Brian Keenan. Written by Willie and Joe, the song appeared on the same titled album and the 3:05 edited single reached Billboard #11. The 11:06 album version is rivaled only by “In A Gadda Da Vida” for sheer mind blowing trip out. It is an LSD trip without dropping acid. “Time Has Come Today” is the Chambers Bros. claim to fame and enduring era classic. The song is not only used in period movie soundtracks like “The Doors” but also in “Kong: Skull Island” and “Remember the Titans.” On TV, “Time Has Come Today” has been heard in “CSI,” “Supernatural,” “Scandal” and “Outlander.” This is the shortened radio edit to spare everyone’s patience and sanity.

An excellent end to a fine series. I looked at my list and noticed that I haven't done a "time" countdown (just "times of day," like "midnight" or "morning"). I might have to do that....guess you can bet we won't match on the Boston song.....

Great stuff! I saw them do this live at either the Ash Grove or the Troubadour probably in 1966, about a year after I got out of the army. It was a killer show.
