Skiing for Survival

Over the centuries skiing has become the fashionable things to do. Of course, it also means spending quite a bit of money if you want to go skiing resorts. There are also different ways a family can enjoy skiing without the expense. In Riga, Latvia a park was turned into a ski paradise in winter and families could enjoy skiing on little slopes or cross-country skiing through the park.
But these are modern times. Way back in the Paleolithic Era which goes back some 40,000 years skiing was a way of survival. A cave painting that has survived from the era’s final Ice Age shows that people used sticks attached to the feet so that they could travel over frozen ground. This was necessary because to survive they had to go hunting for food and there had to be a way to get over the ice and snow.
So the next time you’re snowed in or think you are, take a look around with what you could make up some skis so you could get out and about. A lot of time has gone by since then and who knows maybe you can invent something entirely new to get around the snow in if you are not a skier and you don’t have skis.

I lived in CO most of my life and we have lots of ski slopes there and plenty of snow but, I have never skied, I always told my kids I was never going down any hill on two pieces of wood with no brakes!! We had plenty of blizzards in the city though and one of their friends made snow shoes out of tennis rackets.

@cintol I was envious of my friends who did go skiing and considered learning and then one of my friends went out on the slopes for the first time and bumped into a tree breaking her leg so I never learned.

I haven't been skiing in years since my disability advanced. Now I sit by a fire while everyone else does. I have two antique sleds I can have my daughter's largest dog, a Great Dane, pull me on. One year we used the quad and pulled others by trash can lids. We laughed ourselves silly.

it would be a very practical way to get around the glaciers

lol I am not a skier, I hate moving downhill in a standing position and I am not that enthused about doing it sitting either.

3 life skills I don't have and they all begin with the letter "S". I can't swim. I can't surf. I can't ski. Thankful they are not required for survival.

If that's the case I would probably perish along with millions who do not have skiing skills when the next ice age comes. Man's survival instinct is very fascinating.
