After 40 years!!! Read in AARP that the number of couples calling it quits after reaching the 40 year mark has risen!!! Seems like they could sweat it out after 40 years and try to work it out!! Advice on this please??!!

Why should they sweat it out? After 40 years the kids are grown and the parents likely have interests they would like to explore further at this stage in their lives. Those interests may or may not include or be of interest to their spouse. Their relationship can then move in other directions. Better to separate and lead separate lives at this point than stay together while ill feelings fester causing them to eventually hate each other,

Very good insight!! My friend who has been married for a few decades said " I'll do me and U do U!!" That's how he says he's staying married after all these years!! I never see his wife!!

I think it really must be done, and will you do it now?

I am surprised that if there is a problem is not fixed before. I am with my husband from 48 years and it works, but most couples we know who split did not wait 40 years, they did a lot earlier.

@db20747 I would never stay with my husband only for convenience. We are really happy together and I could not imagine my life without him.

WoW!!! You are on your way to your 50th anniversary!!! It does seem like the problems could have been fixed earlier on!! After 40 years many stay together for the convenience i think!!!

I would think something amiss would be noticed before 40 years have gone by.

Sometimes I wonder is there any way to work this out??!! Not always so easy to find another or maybe they just need a break!! After a break they may just get back 2gether!!!
