Favorite "State" Songs #10 - "The State of the End of the Millennium Address"

I am stealing an idea from @FourWalls and counting down my favorite songs with either the words "Town," "City," "State," or "Country" in the title. This is the "State" portion of today's discussion, and we are at #10: "The State of the End of the Millennium Address" by Bad Religion. Bad Religion is a damn fantastic punk band from Los Angeles that formed in 1980. They are living proof of my assertion that punk rockers are a hell of a lot more intelligent than the stereotype, and definitely more socially conscious than the average, self-obsessed American. Simply put, punks actually care about the system, inequality, justice, racism, consumerism, fairness, among other things, and won't hesitate to speak their minds in song. From their 1998 album, No Substance, "The State of the End of the Millennium Address" is just such a tune. Short and to the point, the song is a scathing, sarcastic diatribe on American society at the end of the century. In fact, vocalist Greg Graffin eschews singing, instead getting his point across with spoken word, a teleprompter speech simply telling it like it is (not only was he right, but he's still right. In fact, it's gotten worse.) "The first word in USA is US." Except that "US vs THEM" (whoever THEM is. Apparently, it's everybody but US) seems more apt. Thank goodness we have bands like this to point that out. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I did get to see the guitarist as part of Circle Jerks, another L.A. punk legend!

Some singers/bands really try to get their message across with their songs.
