My Grandmother Must Have Hated Laundry Day

I was working on the family tree today and posting stories that Mom had told to me when we were having our daily chats. One of the stories was about how Nanny would take the laundry down to the river, which was across the highway with a washboard each week! In the summer, it might have been nice because there were big flat rocks across the river but in the winter, washing for a family of seven must not have been much fun! Mom had a wringer washing machine and a clothes line. It's funny how each generation saw improvements... but none of us ever came to like laundry day... even with all the improvements!! Do you have a particular day for laundry?? Mine is any night that I have enough for a load and I hang everything to dry on racks. Something inside of me hates using the dryer! Must be genetic lol!

My mother used a copper and washboard but didn't have to take clothes to a river thankfully. I don't mind doing the laundry - just bung it in the washer and come back later to peg it out. I wash whenever I have a load to do. And I wash after 9pm or before 7am as our power is a lot cheaper at those times.

Our most inexpensive time is after 7pm so that is generally when I head down to do. We give the power company enough money!!

I can just imagine how much laundry that would come out to be!! I see how much the four of us managed to make!! I had a "laundry room" next to the kitchen in one of our houses but it was soooo small, I told them to put it back in the basement! Yours must have been a nice size!!!

Yes, it's sad, isn't it? Ya know they even have these robotic machines for folding laundry now. Of course these are really expensive and most people aren't going to shell out money for something so "frivolous". I loathe laundry but I have a way of doing it. I will put it in to wash and throughout that day, I will fold a few things at a time. That way I am not standing there folding everything. Of course, this doesn't work when I have to do multiple loads of laundry.

I wonder what laundry day will look like in the future now that we are thinking about it!!

@Hate2Iron I imagine it would consist of a lot of lasers and steam cleaning. Lasers to remove stains and steam to get it instantly dry and pressed. I could be wrong. Their may be Rosie bots to do all the cleaning.

I'm so happy I have the convenience of a washer and dryer. I can't even imagine having to do laundry at the river. I don't have a specific laundry day

I remember my mother handwashing all our clothes in a big sink we had in our kitchen. Nowadays we just stuff everything into our washing machine whenever we have enough for a full load.

Wow that is some kind of story. We are all spoiled today. I wash twice a week.
