It's been too long! Are you out of practice too?

I took out my Larrivee LS-05 yesterday, a really nice guitar that I hadn't played in awhile. I keep that guitar in an unusual alternative tuning. I practiced some songs I hadn't played in months, and realized it had been way too long since I'd practiced in that tuning. I was making more mistakes than I'm used to and didn't feel confident as I was playing.
I'm going to take my LS-05 out again tonight. Band practice is cancelled, both because it's raining cats and dogs an because of one our band mates is sick. I wonder if I'll get my mojo in that alternative tuning back quickly.
Can you think of something you haven't done in too long--something around which you might be out of practice? I also haven't cooked my aphrodisiac beef stroganoff in years. I could probably think of other things.

When it warms up I am hoping to get back to horseback riding. They have been slackers for too long now.

@wolfgirl569 One of my band mates is from Ohio (not sure which town, but it's a "rust belt" town). Next time I visit him and his family there, I'll give those lazy hay burners a workout.

Listen, I can barely do anything on a guitar in "standard" tuning, so don't go throwing alternative tunings at me!!!

Heh. Just to torture you, I'll throw a good one out by Alex DeGrassi. It's in drop-D tuning, capoed up.

Does aphrodisiac beef stroganoff really work? Um..I'm asking for a friend because I have no trouble getting girls in the mood on my own, of course.

@TheHorse That's just the kind of thing my friend needs. His good looks and great sense of humor just don't seem to work all that often.

I don't know anything about guitars but that one is a beauty.
If have to say I'd be very rusty if I attempted to use my sewing machine.

@TheHorse I'm sure it would come back quickly. Back in the day I used to sew quite often but haven't made anything in a long time. It's probably like riding a bike!

Jean Larrivee was actually a classical guitarist before he started building guitars. So some of his steel-string guitars have an almost classical guitar look. When I went to Larrivee's newer plant in Oxnard California to get my D-03 (which had been broken on a trip to Austria by United) fixed, I was given a tour of the facility by...Jean Larrivee! I got to meet one of my idols. He had a Canadian French accent, which is very different from the gentle French accent we think of when we hear people from France itself.

@JudyEv Psychology is full of fancy terms for the semi-obvious. If we've learned something, and we try to re-learn it, it comes back quickly. Time to go practice on my Larrivee LS-05 in that unusual tuning. I actually already did earlier today, and I played much better than I did last night.

With alternative tuning, maybe you can reform Sonic Youth!

@TheHorse - Alternative band from New York. Guitarists Thurston Moore and Lee Renaldo used alternate tuning on all the songs.

yea,i got so sick of band drama i put down my bass for awhile.
..and then i worked for another band for 9 years and quickly remembered why i got sick of it.
plus i could use a new 15' cabinet.
