Surgery on the Fish

Philippines
January 18, 2019 10:44am CST
Most of my fish have died so two days ago I decided to clean the aquarium and remove everything. Turns out that the water I've been using was infested with parasites that I've seen for the time in their scales One of the biggest had more than three attach to it. So, I did the unbelievable and remove the parasite one by one. Sadly, afterwards, it died the next day. Now, I have a separate bucket tank and have them medicated there. I did the same with my brother's rank but they ALL died the netxtthey.

A quarantine tank with high salt content might have had helped. It's my practice to put 1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt/ gallon in our aquarium to keep my fishes healthy and prevent some parasites.

Hello @louievill one and half teaspoon? is it iodized or rock salt? because i won't want to end up pouring the wrong salt on them.

I'm so sorry to hear that. One fish can infect all the others.

For some reason fish and certain animals just attract parasites like no other. Some of them are good but most are bad. I think dolphins and sharks get the good parasites. Usually hangs around their eyes if I remember right. Animal kingdom is crazy and thankfully we built houses. I would never want to be a fish. That is a hard or quick life.

@Letranknight2015 You could not know that buddy. Parasites are like tough strains of bacteria, hard to kill them all. You did not destroy those fish and really could have been in the fish already, nothing to with tank or market, they caught the fish already infected.

Hello @crossbones27 It depends on the one who was selling the fish. I cleaned my aquarium because of it but it seemed I haven't completely gotten rid of it.

Hello @dya80dya I hope so, but to be honest with you, it's not as easy as I thought.

Do you know what the parasite was? Many parasites can be difficult to remove and some need special treatments to get rid of them

Hello @ThreeTeddies Either from the other fish I bought, the net, water or even the filter sponge. Right now I just remove one by one and try to medicate them.

Oh what a shame fish are so prone to that kind of thing and they die off on you when you least expect it happened to me also with my kid´s goldfish.

@Letranknight2015 I would not have them now unless I had the proper conditions to have them in.
