A Marklin Railway from the 1950s

After reading the post by @MALUSE about Marklin electric railway sets I emailed my younger sister and asked her if she remembered the Marklin railway set we had in our home in the 1950s. "Of course I do", she said. "I have a photo of it when Dad took it outside one day." And so here it is, my father's pride and joy, his Marklin electric train set with my little sister beside it. I remember it as having more accessories to it on the board, so this must have been taken in the early days. So, thank you @MALUSE for bringing back this childhood memory and enabling my sister to share her photo with me - and now with you all!

Perhaps this was the beginning of my passion for trains.

Great memories Val. My brother had a Marklin railway set in his bedroom when we were kids. My husband had a large collection of toy trains that have all been sold last year. A piece of history has gone forever.

They definitely are a piece of history. I remember before the Marklin we had a wind-up Hornby set.

@valmnz The trains of my husband were still in the apartment of my mother. When we cleared the apartment we decided to sell a lot of our things that were still there. Moving all those trains here made no sense.

The Märklin headquarters is in the town where I live! Have some ä ä ä ä ä ä umlauts from me. It's Märklin, not Marklin.

Lovely memory to share with us. My father and two brothers had an electric train set that they spent hours and hours with. I know my brother still has it.

What a lovely memory. I particularly love all the tiny miniatures that they decorate these boards with.

We had one too, a smaller version and those were endless days of fun. I would refuse to go to sleep until dad put it away.
